day nine

A photo of the item you last purchased

(I wanted to complete this post in a different way, but since I will honestly never get around to it since I am always wearing these pants, here are some photos I took for this purpose last Monday...)

BDG Ankle Cigarette jeans. I've wanted them forever but never really felt the need to buy a pair, especially at their price and because I thought they wouldn't fit well, but I could not have been more wrong (deeply discounted + fit almost like leggings, though they're not at all jeggings). These are probably the only pants I will ever buy for the rest of my life.

And yay moving on with the challenge!

PS -- Stanford men's rugby sweater and white knit circle scarf :)

day five

A photo of yourself two years ago

I pulled this from my Facebook Profile Pictures album--this was actually two years ago, but since it was taken on Jan 10, 2009 and that date is so close to today (two days off!), I decided to use this instead :).

Narrative:
I actually remember the precise reason and everything behind this webcam photo. I had just finished the grueling process of presenting my sophomore Science Fair project. We placed second, much to our disbelief...although looking at our first-place rival (someone who ripped his mother's psychology work at our state university in order to create an insane behavioral sciences presentation), it is now obvious that in a fair world, my voice frequencies vs. vocal connotations project could have won first.

But slight bitterness aside, my two partners and I were so proud of our work, myself especially, since I took a large initiative in this one with making the display and being the tester for 80% of our subjects. We also received a 100% on our project, which was nice (and also unexpected from our cynical teacher), to say the least. So upon the end of this journey (although we had counties to prepare for), I could not wait to let down my hair (literally and metaphorically) (must stop with the parentheses) and take a break. I had been running on cans of lo-carb Monster for about a week, so sleeping in was euphoric.

And my grasse matinee is what you see pictured here. The ultimate lazy day, but well-deserved, I think. I slept in and awoke to my hair waving in an agreeable manner, my biological clock refreshed, completely content.

I also remember that I bought the pictured shirt as a memento of my hard work for science fair. I fell in love with this type of shirt after going on a cruise in December 2008, a few months prior, and seeing someone constantly wear one that just seemed so comfy. And so I bought one after getting my results back...just as comfortable as I had perceived, and I still wear it to this day (actually I wore it yesterday), which justifies the purchase. This is going on a tangent, but it's nice to see that some things stay constant even after a few years.

Likewise, I didn't notice this until a few minutes ago, but I'm also wearing a pair of Under Armour leggings, which I originally bought for snowboarding a couple years back (likely around the time this photo was taken, too). Seemingly trivial, except I basically live in these 24/7 at home; the warmest leg wear I have ever encountered in my 17 years. I'm also happy to say that I still wear these religiously...and I can't imagine winter without them.

So there you have it: a day in my life, two years ago, and my most worn sleepwear since then.

Time flies.

17 December 2010

day twenty-four

Whatever tickles your fancy

Random, but in light of an acquaintance's recent success in scoring a job at A&F's Fifth Avenue store, a fairly recent memory was re-evoked.

If this summer ends up looking unproductive, I may or may not be spending it in Palo Alto with my brother! My parents' original idea was for me to get an easy job waiting tables or something of the sort, but since I was given a job offer while visiting Stanford Shopping Center's A&F last September, they agreed that I could move to the West Coast for the summer and work there (more fun than taking food orders!). And force my brother to live in his closet while I take over his room.

Heckyeahhahh.

Just kidding. I'm not even sure how that would work, although my parents seriously agreed without much thought. Strange.

Anyway, this is more ironic because I'm pretty sure I don't qualify for A&F's height limits, but it's a cute memory I mostly forgot about. I was walking around with my Canon (just visited the Golden Gate Bridge) in an inappropriately-warm winter batwing sweater and white shorts when the assistant manager/something of that sort flagged me down...who then was a bit aghast when I told her I lived in Delaware ("if you're not a Stanford undergrad, what's a Delawhatian doing in NorCal?" kind of reaction) and then embarrassingly advised me to apply for a position at my local store.

It must have been the bad lighting. But nonetheless, it made my day and then I bought a pair of heavily discounted jeans. My last day in CA :(.

Okay that's where the story ends. Now back to Chuck. I think I watched 10 hours worth of episodes today. I'm finally on the last episode of season 3! Whoo :)

transitional

Is it fall or winter? I can't really tell.

H&M top, J. Crew cardigan, pea/trenchcoat from China, Tiffany's heart ring.

Thinking of painting my room mauve.

rainy days

One in every eight school days, I get to come home early--before lunch! Thanks to our new demi-block scheduling system, and my luck of getting a fixed study hall during the alternating lunch periods, I have my lab aid class last on "A" days and thus, with the permission of my wonderful moderator, am home before the school day has even started.

This is all the more exciting when it rains (today). I love the pitter-patter of precipitation on the roof...I could sleep for hours without end, lulled by the hypnotic and ever-steady rhythm of water droplets. After writing, I'm going to eat lunch and take a well-deserved nap (college applications and the color-page yearbook deadlines have been keeping me up every night...I'm now constantly plagued by these killer headaches, despite how much I might sleep to try and compensate).

But more importantly: it's chap-stick and scarf season again (yessssss!).

I rarely pull out this scarf, though it's one of my absolute favorites. Gifted by my aunt and supposedly Louis Vuitton (my aunt never buys fake and picks up designer bags for my mom and I once in a while, but I doubt its authenticity), it is by far thee largest scarf I have ever own...but also the softest. It could almost double as a pashmina, and I raved over it to pieces when I first received it, but the only problem with it is that there's just SO MUCH fabric. As a light scarf (despite its size), I attempted to wear it in the summer, but to no avail...it just ate me up, and I saw no point in trying to wear it with 90 degree weather.

However, now that temperatures are dropping and daylight savings starts in just a few short days, I see the benefits of having a scarf of this size. Unlike the crocheted and thick scarves I usually port around during the winter, this one is entirely different due to both the fabric and warmth it produces without weighing me down.

And I love it.

So, I expect to start wearing it more. I'm glad I grabbed it to wear today, though it ate up my school uniform and got a bit wet :(. And now I'm really hungry...I don't think I've ever done a clothing post of this sort before. I avidly used to follow fashion blogs (stopped once summer rolled around I was forbidden in Canada), and have just begun to pick it up again. This was something I've always wanted to try out, but I think I'm way too conservative in my clothing choice and a bit too shy to go for it...maybe when I have more freedom in what I wear (i.e. not a uniform).
